ABC Killed the OneCity Motion on Apartments by Bike Routes: Hear me Talk About it on the Early Edition with Amy Bell

Lucy Maloney (OneCity) brought forward a motion that directed staff to work on legalizing 6-floor apartments by bike routes and parks; I wrote about it here, but the point is I thought it was great. Vancouver desperately needs options for building low-rise apartments like these across the city, and legalizing them by bike routes and parks was a good step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, Ken Sim and ABC effectively killed it. They say they didn’t, but don’t let them fool you: they referred it to staff as a low priority behind other work going on in the planning department, which is a bureaucratic technique to bury it.

We’re in a housing crisis–when will we get a mayor and council that act like it and treat it with the urgent action it demands?

I was invited to speak on the CBC Early Edition with Stephen Quinn (Amy Bell filling in) this morning. You can listen to it here.
