The public hearing for Vancouver’s Villages Plan (the creation of 17 new low-rise, mixed-use apartment areas) started this week, and I was asked to come on to BC Today to talk about it. The plan is a good thing overall and is definitely a real step in the right direction, even though it has some flaws (mainly, it’s still far too restrictive, and so the best part of it–enabling low-rise, single-lot apartment buildings–isn’t economically viable).
But since it legalizes more housing options in low-density areas, you won’t be surprised to hear it has been receiving a huge amount of opposition…especially from the West Side. So I was happy to be invited to come on to BC Today to talk about it…and even take some callers!
